Named New College of Education Dean at AASU

22, 2004Armstrong Atlantic State University (AASU) announces the
selection of Dr. Jane H. McHaney as dean of the College of Education.
In her new role, McHaney will be responsible for strategic planning,
faculty appointments, budgetary and administrative oversight, and operations
within the College of Education. She also will be responsible for forging
new and innovative links with the larger community. McHaney will begin
her duties as dean in July.
"AASU is extremely pleased to welcome Dr. McHaney to Armstrong
Atlantic and Savannah," said Edward Thompson III, vice president
of Academic Affairs and dean of faculty at AASU. "Dr. McHaney is
an experienced and widely recognized leader in the education and training
of teachers. She will continue the fine work already being done in the
AASU College of Education."
McHaney stated that she is looking forward to joining AASU and the College
of Education. "I am energized by the progress the College of Education
has made toward creating distinctive programs and the potential for
strengthening collaborative efforts with public schools, businesses,
and the community."
McHaney currently serves as dean of the College of Education and professor
of education at the University of Central Arkansas (UCA), where she
is responsible for accredited undergraduate and graduate programs with
2,500 undergraduate and graduate students, 61 full-time faculty, and
a budget of $5 million dollars. McHaney previously served as dean of
the Bagwell College of Education and professor of Early Childhood Education
and Reading at Kennesaw State University.
