AASU to Host Brown Vs Board of Education Commemoration May 7

Savannah, GA—April 28, 2004—The 50th anniversary of the Brown versus the Board of Education decision— the Supreme Court ruling that declared separate school facilities were inherently unequal—will take place on May 17. Armstrong Atlantic State University will host a special program on May 7 to commemorate this landmark decision that opened the door for the integration of all public schools across the country.

Presentations will include a history of the civil rights movement and firsthand accounts from students who were impacted most by the Supreme Court decision. The event will begin at 2 p.m. in room 156 of University Hall. It is free and open to the public.
