Named Chairperson of Pathways Scholars
Savannah, GAJannis M. Glover, a 1997 graduate of Armstrong Atlantic
State Universitys DeWitt Wallace-Readers Digest Pathways to Teaching
Program, has been named chairperson of the National Network of Pathways
Scholars. She currently is a sixth grade language arts and reading teacher
at Shuman Middle School.
As chairperson of the National Network of Pathways Scholars, Glover
will stay in touch with the executive council, serve as lead spokesperson,
and coordinate agendas for meetings, said Evelyn Dandy, director
of AASUs Pathways to Teaching Program.
The organization comprises professional educators who have earned degrees
and teacher certification through the Pathways careers program.
Their mission is to continue supporting a network for the exchange of
ideas and information on innovative and effective teaching practices.
Glover recently received a master of arts at Lincoln College, Oxford
England. She began her career with Savannah-Chatham County Public Schools
as a paraprofessional and later was admitted to AASUs Pathways
program. She maintained the highest grade point average of all Pathways
scholars, graduating magna cum laude. In 1998, she received the Savannah-Chatham
County Sallie Mae First Class Teacher of the Year Award.
The Pathways Program has more than forty affiliates around the country
and includes collaborations in twenty-six states. It has been in existence
since 1989 with an investment of $50 million from DeWitt Wallace-Reader's
Digest Fund. The program nationally has produced more than 3,500 teachers
and boasts a retention rate of 89%.
