Glover Named Chairperson of Pathways Scholars

Savannah, GA—Jannis M. Glover, a 1997 graduate of Armstrong Atlantic State University’s DeWitt Wallace-Readers Digest Pathways to Teaching Program, has been named chairperson of the National Network of Pathways Scholars. She currently is a sixth grade language arts and reading teacher at Shuman Middle School.

“As chairperson of the National Network of Pathways Scholars, Glover will stay in touch with the executive council, serve as lead spokesperson, and coordinate agendas for meetings,” said Evelyn Dandy, director of AASU’s Pathways to Teaching Program.

The organization comprises professional educators who have earned degrees and teacher certification through the Pathways’ careers program. Their mission is to continue supporting a network for the exchange of ideas and information on innovative and effective teaching practices.

Glover recently received a master of arts at Lincoln College, Oxford England. She began her career with Savannah-Chatham County Public Schools as a paraprofessional and later was admitted to AASU’s Pathways’ program. She maintained the highest grade point average of all Pathways’ scholars, graduating magna cum laude. In 1998, she received the Savannah-Chatham County Sallie Mae First Class Teacher of the Year Award.

The Pathways Program has more than forty affiliates around the country and includes collaborations in twenty-six states. It has been in existence since 1989 with an investment of $50 million from DeWitt Wallace-Reader's Digest Fund. The program nationally has produced more than 3,500 teachers and boasts a retention rate of 89%.
