AASU Names Computer Science Quiz Bowl Winners

Savannah, GA—March 22, 2005—Computer savvy students from eight Georgia schools attended Armstrong Atlantic State University’s third annual School of Computing Quiz Bowl on March 5. Jody Chapin, news anchor for WTOC-11 News, emceed the event.

During the Quiz Bowl, teams consisting of three students completed two preliminary rounds before the top four teams vied for the title in a game show-style tournament. Students first took individual tests and then worked together on team tests. Questions covered computer topics including software, hardware, algorithms, programming, business applications, logic, Boolean algebra, computer literacy, and the Internet.

The students were all awarded certificates of participation. Top prizes included MP3 players, t-shirts, flash drives, trophies, and gift certificates to Best Buy, Amazon.com, and iTunes. Copies of a book on java programming by Daniel Liang’s, professor of computer science at AASU, were also awarded as prizes.

4th Place: Benedictine Military School

3rd Place: Savannah Christian Preparatory School
Thomas Daniel, Joe Drwiega, Ross Misskelley
2nd Place: Windsor Forest High School
Ashley Holmes, Chi Nguyen, and Hai Tran
1st Place: St Pius X Catholic High School
Robert Adamkiewicz-Sochacki, Daniel Boyd, and Thomas Copeland
Overall individual winner:
Hai Tran, a junior at Windsor Forest High School
