to Host Yamacraw Day March

Savannah, GAYamacrawthe state's economic development initiative
to make Georgia a world leader in the design of broadband communication
systems, devices, and chipswill host a Yamacraw Day at Armstrong
Atlantic State University on March 6. The event, covering many aspects
of Yamacraw and its impact on Armstrong Atlantic, will be held from
1:00 to 6:00 P.M. in AASU's Science Center.
"Yamacraw is helping to strengthen eight computer science programs
in the University System of Georgia," said Ray Greenlaw, dean of
AASU's School of Computing. "The benefits of Yamacraw will be long-lasting,
creating in Georgia both high paying design jobs and many more support
and supply-chain jobs."
Yamacraw Day will feature several distinguished speakers who will make
presentations on a range or topics, including Yamacraw projects, member
companies, and National Science Foundation grants and scholarships.
Yamacraw certification will be awarded to computer science students
who have completed Yamacraw research courses. This presentation will
begin at 2:00 P.M.
Yamacraw's distinguished
speaker, Dr.Vijay Madisetti, will present an overview of Yamacraw's
Embedded Software Research Program from 4:00-5:00 P.M. Madisetti, director
of Yamacraw s Embedded Software Group and a professor at Georgia
Institute of Technology, will present some research highlights and results.
Degree candidates improve their employment chances with participating
companies by earning these certificates. Currently, there are 660 students
in AASU's School of Computing: 150 pre-computer science majors, 100
computer science majors, 130 information technology majors, 20 computer
science master's students, and 260 engineering students.
AASU's School of Computing works closely with VeriSign (a Yamacraw company)
and is building relationships with other high-tech companies within
the region. AASU, Georgia Southern and Savannah State universities,
and the Georgia Tech Regional Engineering Program hold a Yamacraw Distinguished
Speaker Series each semester.
