AASU Chemistry Students' Research Recognized by American Chemical Society

Savannah, GA—December 3, 2004—Nin Dingra and Joyce Chow (left to right), chemistry majors at Armstrong Atlantic State University (AASU), won second place for their undergraduate research in the inorganic division of the Southeast Regional Meeting of the American Chemical Society (SERMACS) , November 10-13. The award was for their research, "Nanoparticle Mediated Photodefluorination Monitored by F-19 NMR."

Dingra and Chow's research is part of the National Science Foundation funded project aimed at introducing nanotechnology into the curriculum. The NSF project, "Vertical Threads for Nanotechnology in the Chemistry Curriculum," was authored by AASU professors Will Lynch and Delana Nivens.

The 2004 SERMACS was held in Research Triangle, North Carolina. Over 1,600 attendees presented 901 technical papers, including 174 undergraduate presentations.
