Savannah, GAAugust
27, 2004Two poems in Southern Poetry Review (Spring/Summer
2003), "Someone Naked and Adorable" by David Kirby and "Anyways"
by Suzanne Cleary, have received the prestigious Pushcart Prize for their
excellence. The poems will be reprinted in November 2004 in Pushcart Prize
XXIX: Best of the Small Presses.
The Pushcart series, published every year since 1976, is one of the most
honored literary projects in America. Hundreds of presses and thousands
of writers of short stories, poems, and essays have been represented in
the pages of its annual collections. Publishers Weekly named the
Pushcart Prize among the most influential projects in the history of American
publishing. Editions are found in most libraries and bookstores.
The second oldest poetry journal in the region, SPR publishes poems from
all over the country as well as from abroad, maintaining an international
readership. Robert Parham, former head of the Department of Languages,
Literature, and Philosophy at Armstrong Atlantic State University (AASU),
has served as editor since 2002, along with Associate Editor and AASU
faculty member James Smith.
