of NOW to give Keynote Address during Southeastern Womens Studies

8, 2004Kim Gandy, president of the National Organization of Women
(NOW) will give the keynote address during the 27th annual Southeastern
Womens Studies Association Conference, "Feminist Locations,"
from March 25 through 27 at the DeSoto-Hilton Hotel. Gandy's talk, "Below
the Belt," will begin at 7 p.m. on March 26.
"The focus of the conference will be to locate feminist theory
and practice in the multiple and conflicting experiences of our lived
realities and discuss how feminism speaks to the current world situation,"
said Teresa Winterhalter, co-coordinator of the conference and the AASU
coordinator of women's studies.
The conference
will feature over fifty concurrent sessions that will include papers,
panels, round tables, workshops, and performance/art. The three-day
conference registration is $70, which includes a wine and cheese reception,
cocktail hour reception, and a luncheon. The public can attend Gandy's
talk by purchasing a ticket for $8 at the door.
Gandy was elected president of the National Organization of Women in
2001 after more than a decade as executive vice president and secretary
treasurer of the organization. As executive vice president, she was
responsible for NOW's government relations and legislative agenda. She
oversaw NOW's landmark racketeering case against anti-abortion terrorists.
She directs the fundraising programs and supervises chapter developments
services and leadership training for NOW's more than 500 state and local
chapters.
