AASU to Host National Science Bowl

Savannah, GA—January 13, 2004,—On January 31, AASU will host a sub-regional competition of the National Science Bowl for thirty top science students. The science bowl is a Jeopardy-like competition for high school students that focuses on astronomy, physics, chemistry, biology, computer science, geology, and mathematics. It will be held on the second floor of AASU's Science Center beginning at 9 a.m.

This year, five teams from four schools will be competing, with the top teams moving on to the state level. The four schools are Frederica Academy, Statesboro High School, Wayne County High School, and H.V. Jenkins High School. The Coastal Georgia Local Section of the American Chemical Society and Worldwide Camera are sponsoring the competition along with Armstrong Atlantic.

The National Science Bowl is a highly visible educational event and academic competition among teams of high school students. Participants compete in a verbal forum to solve technical problems and answer questions in all branches of science and math. The regional and national events encourage student involvement in math and science activities, improve awareness of career options in science and technology, and provide an avenue of enrichment and reward for academic science achievement.
