Chemistry Students Recognized by ACS
Savannah, GA--The
American Chemical Societythe worlds largest scientific organizationhas
awarded the Armstrong Atlantic State University chapter of the Student
Affiliates of the American Chemical Society (SAACS) outstanding status.
Only 31 SAACS chapters were recognized out of 950 in the United States
and Puerto Rico.
"The student affiliates at AASU have embraced the responsibility
to give back to the community," said Will Lynch co-advisor of AASUs
SAACS chapter. Together they volunteer more than 200 hours per semester
offering free tutoring for all levels of chemistry courses." Catherine
MacGowan is the other co-advisor.
SAACS members also work closely with AASUs "Fun with Science"
demonstration program for elementary and middle school students. For
the past six years, more than 500 kindergarten through twelfth grade
students have participated in the annual outreach program. Members also
pursue scholarly activities through grant writing and research activities
sponsored by the chapter and/or the chemistry faculty.
