AASU to Offer Certificate in Financial Economics

Savannah, GA—Armstrong Atlantic State University's Department of Economics has received approval to begin offering a certificate program in financial economics. The certificate will recognize a broad understanding of various aspects of financial markets, ranging from capital markets and financial institutions to foreign exchange markets.

"The certificate is important because it conveys to employers a breadth of understanding of financial theory and markets ," said Yassi Saadatmand, head of AASU's economics department.

The certificate in financial economics is designed to complement a variety of majors and makes the graduate more marketable. For non-degree students who completed undergraduate degrees in other disciplines, the certificate may facilitate the transition to a new occupation or promotion within their current place of employment. A certificate also is intended for individuals with a professional or occupational interest in financial economics.

Application to the program can only be made after successful completion with a grade of C or better in Principles of Macroeconomics; Money and Banking; Financial Economics: Portfolio Analysis; Money and Capital Markets; International Financial Institutions; and an additional upper level economics course. An official certificate and an official notation on the transcript will be awarded upon satisfactory fulfillment of the program's requirements.
