AASU to Host Writing Conference

Savannah, GA–The Coastal Georgia Writing Project (CGWP) at Armstrong Atlantic State University will host its tenth annual "Just Write" fall conference on November 2. The conference will be held at the Coastal Georgia Center from 8:00 A.M. to 4:00 P.M.

Conducted by CGWP teacher consultants, the conference will provide various workshops on the teaching of writing for teachers in elementary schools through college. Some of the workshop topics are "Travel Writing: Rediscovering the Art of Research," "Testing, Testing, 1,2,3: The Impact of Standardized Tests on Teaching Writing," "Putting the Art in Language Arts: A Visual Approach to Literacy," "Writing to Learn in Math," and "Guided Discovery: Writing Research in Science."

Established in 1991, the CGWP at AASU is one of more than 160 local sites for the National Writing Project (NWP) network. Following the NWP’s teachers-teaching-teachers model, CGWP programs aim to improve student writing in area classrooms. CGWP professional opportunities include the annual invitational summer institutes for teachers, the Young Writers’ Program, fall and spring conferences, and contracted school-based inservice programs.
