Community Leaders Join AASU Board of Trustees

SAVANNAH, GA––June 24, 2005— The Armstrong Atlantic State University Foundation Board of Trustees announces that nine leaders from the Savannah community have joined its twenty-four member board.

The purpose of the board is to acquire and administer funds and gifts for the support of the university and its programs. Annually, the foundation provides more than $300,000 to enhance academic and service programs. The net assets of the foundation have increased from nearly $300,000 in 1994 to more than $5 million presently.

The new members of the Foundation Board of Trustees are as follows:

Bill Cathcart is the vice president and general manager of WTOC-TV in Savannah. He is an active member of the Savannah Area Chamber of Commerce, including serving on the CEO Council and the 2005 Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) Task Force that provided community support for area military installations. He also is a member of the Mighty Eighth Air Force Museum Board of Trustees, the USO-Savannah Board, Rotary Club of Savannah, and other community organizations. Cathcart earned a master's and Ph.D. in broadcast communications from Ohio State University.
Matt Gignilliat is the director of economic development and regulatory affairs for Savannah Electric. His other work experience includes managing part of Georgia-Pacific's recycled paper mill in Effingham County and seven years with Union Carbide Corporation in manufacturing and engineering. Gignilliat earned an industrial engineering degree from Georgia Tech. He participates on the boards of Savannah Technical College, United Way of the Coastal Empire, and the Excellence Fund for Public Education. He and his family are active members of Savannah Christian Church and are active in Coastal Georgia Emmaus and Chrysalis communities.
John C. Howard, Jr., D.D.S., a native of Savannah, has practiced private dentistry locally since 1974. A graduate of Savannah Country Day School, he later earned an undergraduate degree in biology and his D.D.S. from Emory University. He has received numerous awards and honors from the American Dental Association and Georgia Dental Association. Additionally, Howard has served as treasurer of the French Society, chairman of the board for St. Andrews School, and Commodore of the Savannah Yacht Club.
Karen Panzitta, M.D., is a practicing physician at Radiology Associates of Savannah. She earned a degree in biology from Armstrong State College and an M.D. from the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta.
Paul Pressly is education coordinator for the Ossabaw Island Foundation in Savannah. The past-president of Savannah Country Day School, he has served on the boards of the University of Georgia Press Advisory Council, Georgia Historical Society, Telfair Museum of Art, Davenport House, Rabun Gap Nacoochee School, and the Cum Laude Society. Pressly earned a bachelor's in history from Princeton University, a master's of public administration from Harvard University, and a doctorate in philosophy from Oxford University.
Vernice B. Rackett is membership director for the Savannah Quarters Country Club. Her other work experience includes being membership director for the First City Club in Savannah. Rackett previously served on the boards of the United Way of the Coastal Empire, Telfair Museum of Art, Historic Savannah Foundation, and Memorial Health's Backus Children's Hospital Board. She is a graduate of Leadership Savannah and served on the corporate committee for the 2005 Liberty Mutual Legends of Golf Tournament. She earned her bachelor's degree in dental hygiene from the University of North Carolina— Chapel Hill.
William S. Ray, Jr., D.D.S., a native of Savannah, has practiced private dentistry in Savannah since 1965. He attended the L.D. Pankey Institute for Advanced Dental Education in Miami. He has been awarded fellowships in the academy of general dentistry, The Pierre Fauchard Academy, the Georgia Dental Association, the American College of Dentists, and the International College of Dentists. A graduate of Savannah High School, Ray attended Armstrong College. He completed his pre-dental education at the University of Georgia, graduated from Emory University's School and Dentistry, and later served in the U.S. Dental Corps in Charleston.
Bert Tenenbaum is president of Chatham Steel Corporation in Savannah. He has served on the boards of the Savannah Community Foundation, Chamber of Commerce, Savannah Country Day School, and the North American Steel Alliance. He earned a bachelor's in psychology from Emory University.

Linda Zoller is an active volunteer in the Savannah community. She currently serves on the boards of Historic Savannah, Savannah-Chatham County Youth Futures Authority, Savannah Country Day School, and the Savannah Jewish Federation. She has served as president of the Junior League of Savannah, Ronald McDonald House of the Coastal Empire, Savannah/Chatham Commission on Children and Youth, and the Savannah Foundation. She also has served actively with the United Way and Second Harvest Food Bank. Zoller was a member of the 1988-1990 class of Leadership Savannah and the 1993 class of Leadership Georgia.
