AASU
to Host Savannah-Ogeechee Regional Science and Engineering Fair
Savannah,
GAFebruary 4, 2005Armstrong Atlantic State University
will host the Savannah-Ogeechee Regional Science and Engineering Fair
from February 24-25. The fair will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on
Thursday and from 6 to 8:30 p.m. on Friday. The event will conclude
with an awards ceremony at 7 p.m. in the AASU Sports Center. The event
is free and open to the public on Friday from 6-7 p.m.
The regional fair provides a forum for learning that helps students
solve problems using organized and logical thought processes. The
competition encourages students to explore and investigate their world
through hands-on research. Project categories include botany, computer
science, and engineering.
Participants were selected based on their outstanding performance
at local high school fairs. This year, 225 students from 35 middle
and high schools in Chatham, Effingham, Evans, Liberty, Bryan, Long,
and Bulloch counties will compete in the fair. Awards for excellence
will be presented to the students who submit the best projects. Forty-two
students will go on to represent the region at the Georgia Science
and Engineering Fair in Athens. Two students will be selected to attend
the fifty-sixth International Science and Engineering Fair held in
Portland, Oregon.
