Heritage Week at AASU

HOLA (Hispanic Outreach and Leadership at Armstrong) program will
host Latino Heritage Week, September 26 through October 1. A variety
of cultural events will be open to the public throughout the week
including the following:
September 28
Maximizing Your Potential: Shifting from Striving to Thriving
A workshop with Deborah Deras, master counselor and certified
rehabilitation counselor and action coach. This two-hour leadership
program will cover:
o The four keys to maximize your potential using examples of notable
Latino success stories
o How to turn struggle into opportunity, including her personal
struggle from potential high school drop out to honor student with
a masters degree
o The secret success formula of the great leaders
1 p.m., Memorial College Center Faculty Dinning Room
September 30
Live! Chef Juan Manuel Rodriguez y Bustamante prepares "Arroz
con Pollo" Chicken and Yellow Rice
Enjoy a cooking demonstration and savory samples prepared by a professional
Venezuelan food connoisseur. Take the recipe home.
11:45 a.m., Shearouse Plaza
Latino Dinner and Dance
Relish a light Cuban dinner while enjoying folklore dance performances
from Panamá, México, Colombia, and Puerto Rico. A Latino
DJ will follow, so bring your dancing shoes.
Tickets: $5 in advance, $8 at the door.
Tickets are available through Student Activities and HOLA Club.
6 p.m., Memorial College Center Cafeteria
HOLAs mission includes providing educational, social and academic
support services to AASU Hispanic/Latino students as well as sponsoring
campus activities that promote Hispanic and Latino heritage.
