AASU to Offer Courses on Boating/GPS

Savannah, GA— October 4, 2004—Learn the basics of boating, such as safety and equipment, tides and currents, and basic and advanced navigation techniques. Armstrong Atlantic State University will offer a course on boating on the intracoastal waterway and, for the first time, a follow-up course focusing on using a Global Positioning System (GPS). GPS is a satellite navigational system used worldwide to provide specially coded satellite signals that enable the receiver to compute position, velocity, and time.

"Introduction to Boating on the Intracoastal Waterway" will be offered on Thursdays from October 14-November 4 from 7 to 9 p.m. The cost is $79 (or $129 per couple) plus suggested books and charts. "Effective GPS Use" will be offered October 20 and 27 from 6:30 to 9 p.m. The cost is $59 (or $89 per couple) plus the textbook.
