Savannah, GA—Armstrong Atlantic State University professors Frank Clancy (English) and Richard McGrath (Economics) were named "AASU Instructors of the Year" by the regional unit of the Naval Reserve Officers Training Corps (NROTC). The award was presented at a NROTC gathering held at Savannah State University.

Clancy spent two years living in Dublin, Ireland, attending programs on Irish literature at Trinity College, Dublin, and at University College, Dublin. He worked at the Georgia Gazette as sports editor and feature sports columnist from 1981 to 1984 when the Gazette won the Pulitzer Prize for journalism. Clancy has been at AASU since 1974.

McGrath’s research interests include household consumption and saving, regional economics, economic development and tax evasion. He has conducted research studies for the Savannah Convention and Visitors Bureau, Savannah Economic Development Authority and Chatham Effingham Tobacco Use Prevention Coalition.

The regional NROTC program is a joint unit between Savannah State University and Armstrong Atlantic State University. NROTC students at AASU voted on professors based on their academic presentations, leadership in the classroom and willingness to work with students and the regional program.
