AASU to Host Engineering Academy
for High-Achieving Students, June 14-18

Savannah, GA—April 12, 2004—Rising juniors and seniors and 2004 graduates who have grades of 80% or better in all mathematics and engineering/technology/science courses are encouraged to participate in the 2004 Savannah Engineering Academy, June 14-18. The academy is open to high-achieving students attending private and public schools in Chatham, Effingham, Bryan, and Liberty counties. The academy will be hosted by Armstrong Atlantic State University (AASU).

During the five-day academy, professionals from major engineering disciplines, including civil, electrical, mechanical, manufacturing, environmental, and computer science will conduct activities related to their fields. Participants also will take tours of Gulfstream Aerospace, JCB Construction Equipment, Georgia Tech's Savannah campus, and other local sites.

"Academy participants will explore engineering through a number of hands-on activities, such as building a radio, a robot, and a bridge," said Bill Lovett, chairman of the academy and C.O.O. for Hussey, Gay, Bell & DeYoung Consulting Engineers.

The academy will be held from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily at the AASU Science Center, located at 11935 Abercorn Street in Savannah. Completed applications must be submitted by May 15.
