February
23 , 2004 The
Coastal Empire Chapter of the National InfraGard Program will hold
a CyberSecurity Conference on February 26. The InfraGard Coastal Empire
Conference is the first event of its kind in the Coastal Empire. This
halfday event, hosted by Armstrong Atlantic State University, will
present CyberSecurity awareness in the business community and its
impact on critical information infrastructure. This event brings together
local, regional, and national agencies and other interests that help
each other by sharing critical information in a timely manner. It
provides the opportunity for diverse groups to network with each other
by creating a wide coooperative spectrum on situations that affect
us all. Many influential speakers and guests will be there. This event
will also kick off the Coastal Empire Membership Drive for our local
InfraGard program.
What is InfraGard?
InfraGard is a cooperative undertaking between the U.S. Government
(led by the FBI) and an association of businesses, academic institutions,
state and local law enforcement agencies, and other participants dedicated
to increasing the security of United States critical infrastructures. The
Coastal Empire InfraGard Chapter is a domestic nonprofit corporation
as incorporated in the State of Georgia, and is one part of a national
network organization called, The National InfraGard. All InfraGard
participants are committed to the proposition that a robust exchange
of information about threats to and actual attacks on these critical
infrastructures is an important element for successful infrastructure
protection efforts. Our regional chapter is one of 80 national chapters,
which encompasses over 10,000 members nationwide who work cooperatively
together on this aligned mission. This chapter's membership encompasses
the geographic regions of coastal Georgia (from Statesboro to Savannah
and down to St.Simons Island), as well as extending up to the South
Carolina areas of Beaufort and Hilton Head. Our mission is to educate
and inform our region's businesses, organizations, law enforcement
agencies, educational institutions, as well as private citizens on
issues surrounding cybersecurity.
What does it do?
The InfraGard task is an information sharing and analysis effort serving
the interests and combining the knowledge base of its wide range of
members. InfraGard applies that fusion of knowledge and experience
toward alerting and consulting on information security matters, cybercrime,
potential malicious electronic activity, and general trends in information
technology, hacking, and safeguarding important systems and services.
Private business, government agencies, public interests, and even
common Individuals all benefit from the InfraGard effort. It is much
more than just a hacker or security group, it strives to serve the
community building confidence and relationships between many diverse
groups that have not historically worked together.
