AASU to Hold Commencement Ceremony December 13 SAVANNAH, GA December 9, 2003Armstrong Atlantic State University will hold a commencement ceremony on Saturday, December 13, for the more than 504 students who will graduate as part of the fall class of 2003. The ceremony will begin at 10:00 A.M. in AASU's Alumni Arena. The event is open to the public. President Thomas Z. Jones will confer an Honorary Doctor of Letters on one of the university's most dedicated supporters, H. Dean Propst. A respected and highly effective academic leader, Propst served at Armstrong from 1966 to 1976 as academic dean and professor of English and later as vice president and dean of faculty. Following his years at Amrstrong, Propst had a distinguished career with the University System of Georgia, including serving as chancellor. An honorary degree is the highest honor the university can bestow upon an individual. Following will be a presentation of the Armstrong Atlantic faculty awardsthe Award for Distinguished Service to the University; the Award for Distinguished Faculty Service to the Community; and the Alumni Service to the Discipline Award. The Dean Propst Award will be presented to a faculty member who has been outstanding in teaching and learning and has encouraged student involvement in academic, co-curricular, and leadership activities. After the introduction of the deans of the colleges of arts and sciences, education, health professions, and the schools of computing and graduate studies, President Jones will award diplomas to the undergraduate and graduate degree candidates.
