AASU
TO SEEK COMMUNITY SUPPORT DURING ITS
"3 DAYS FOR AASU" CAMPAIGN, MARCH 30 - APRIL 1
SAVANNAH, GA March 15, 2004From student scholarships to
lab technology upgrades to the Leadership Initiative, Armstrong Atlantic
State University (AASU) is on the move to improve its resources for
students and the Savannah community. Through a new campaign called "3
Days for AASU", campaign volunteers from the campus and the community
will be visiting businesses throughout Metro Savannah from March 30
- April 1 to obtain financial support for the university.
As the university gathers additional resources, it will expand its enrollment
and academic programs. This growth will increase our region's intellectual
capital, making Savannah more attractive to corporations thinking of
locating to the Savannah area. With a projected enrollment of 15,000
students by 2015, Armstrong Atlantic will continue to have a major impact
on Savannahs workforce and intellectual capital.
"Armstrong Atlantic is fast becoming the urban university that
Savannah has long desired and deserved," said Diana Morrison, president
of Advertising Specialty Services and vice-chair of the "3 Days
for AASU" campaign. "I invite everyone to join my business
in supporting Armstrong Atlantic. Our investments are important to AASU
as it continues to make the transition from being a good university
to a great university."
Currently, with over 6,600 students representing 73 countries, more
than 400 full and part-time faculty, and 250 staff members, AASU is
the largest institution of higher education in the Savannah Metro area.
"You don't need to look far to find an Armstrong Atlantic graduate
in Savannah," said Brian Foster, president of First Chatham Bank
and chair of the annual fund. "For example, a majority of law enforcement
and corrections officers, local nurses, and non-physician medical staff
in southeast Georgia attended AASU. Many of the Savannah-Chatham County
school teachers also attended the university."
As a major partner and catalyst in community and economic development,
Armstrong Atlantic directly impacts the Savannah area with more than
$110 million annually. The "3 Days for AASU" campaign empowers
Savannahians to actively improve their community and the university
through monetary contributions.
