Thompson Named Vice President of Academic Affairs and Dean of Faculty at AASU

Savannah, GA–Edward Thompson III has been named vice president of academic affairs and dean of faculty at Armstrong Atlantic State University. Prior to joining the university, Thompson served as assistant vice president for academic affairs at California State University at San Marcos. He also served as chair of political science at the university.

"I am very pleased that Dr. Thompson will be joining Armstrong Atlantic as vice president and dean of faculty," stated AASU President Thomas Z. Jones. "His considerable administrative experience and expertise will be a valuable asset to the university."

As the chief academic officer, Thompson will be responsible for developing and supporting all academic programs and activities at the university. He will provide visionary leadership in the oversight of the university's mission and strategic plan. Thompson also will promote the university and its partnerships with Savannah and the region.

Thompson has given numerous invited lectures and has been published in several peer-reviewed scholarly journals. He earned a doctor of philosophy in political science from Howard University in Washington, DC. Thompson is an active member for the American Political Science Association and served on the editorial board of PS: Political Science and Politics, 1995-1998.
