AASU/Cuyler Brownsville/St. Mary’s Plan Neighborhood Picnic as part of Mayor Johnson’s Anti-Poverty Initiative

Savannah, GA—July 6, 2005—Armstrong Atlantic State University graduate students have taken their leadership development skills to the St. Mary’s Community Center as part of Mayor Otis Johnson’s Anti-Poverty Initiative. Enrolled in AASU’s master’s program in adult education, the graduate students mentored Cuyler-Brownsville community leaders in planning a family focused event—the second annual Cuyler-Brownsville Neighborhood Picnic—to be held July 8. The event will be held from 5-7 p.m at 812 West 36th Street in Savannah.

AASU’s graduate students decided to build upon the successes of last year’s neighborhood picnic by getting the Cuyler/Brownsville community leaders involved in the planning of the event. The students shared a variety of the skills needed for successful event planning as a way to foster leadership skills and build mutual respect among citizens from diverse communities.

Event co-sponsors are the Cuyler/Brownsville Neighborhood, St. Mary’s Community Center, and Armstrong Atlantic State University. For more information, contact Patricia Coberly at 912.921.2385.
