Names Co-Directors of Honors Program
Savannah,
GAJuly 21, 2005Nancy Remler (associate professor of English)
and Jonathan Roberts (assistant professor of psychology) have been
named co-directors of the Honors Program at Armstrong Atlantic State
University. The program offers talented and motivated students the
chance to take advanced and smaller classes in the place of general
education requirements. Students are given opportunities to creatively
apply their intellectual curiosity to independent projects or special
classes in their majors.

In
partnership with administrators from Memorial Health University
Medical Center (MHUMC), Remler has developed a Humanities and
Healing Program that provides a variety of visual, expressive,
and performing arts programs to the community. These programs
are offered by Armstrong Atlantic students and MHUMC staff members.
For the last three years, Remler has served as director of the
Coastal Georgia Writing Project, Savannahs local site
of the National Writing Project. She also serves on the executive
board of the Georgia Council of Teachers of English and was
recently honored with its Professor of the Year Award. Remler
earned a Ph.D. in English Education from the University of Georgia.

Roberts
regularly organizes student volunteer groups for Habitat for
Humanity and recently received a certificate of appreciation
from the American Red Cross for encouraging students to donate
blood. He specializes in developmental cognitive neuroscience
and has authored numerous papers published in the International
Journal of Psychophysiology, Developmental Psychobiology,
Developmental Neuropsychology, and Perceptual and
Motor Skills. Roberts was recently named to "Who's
Who Among American Teachers" for 2005. He earned a Ph.D.
in psychology from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State
University.
