AASU Names Co-Directors of Honors Program

Savannah, GA—July 21, 2005—Nancy Remler (associate professor of English) and Jonathan Roberts (assistant professor of psychology) have been named co-directors of the Honors Program at Armstrong Atlantic State University. The program offers talented and motivated students the chance to take advanced and smaller classes in the place of general education requirements. Students are given opportunities to creatively apply their intellectual curiosity to independent projects or special classes in their majors.

In partnership with administrators from Memorial Health University Medical Center (MHUMC), Remler has developed a Humanities and Healing Program that provides a variety of visual, expressive, and performing arts programs to the community. These programs are offered by Armstrong Atlantic students and MHUMC staff members. For the last three years, Remler has served as director of the Coastal Georgia Writing Project, Savannah’s local site of the National Writing Project. She also serves on the executive board of the Georgia Council of Teachers of English and was recently honored with its Professor of the Year Award. Remler earned a Ph.D. in English Education from the University of Georgia.
Roberts regularly organizes student volunteer groups for Habitat for Humanity and recently received a certificate of appreciation from the American Red Cross for encouraging students to donate blood. He specializes in developmental cognitive neuroscience and has authored numerous papers published in the International Journal of Psychophysiology, Developmental Psychobiology, Developmental Neuropsychology, and Perceptual and Motor Skills. Roberts was recently named to "Who's Who Among American Teachers" for 2005. He earned a Ph.D. in psychology from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University.
